Helpful Hints for the Streamside-bound Camper
We are so excited that you have chosen to send your child to Streamside Camp this summer! One of our most important goals is for every camper to have a safe, healthy and fun stay at Streamside. The information below should help you prepare your special camper for a week at camp.
WHAT TO BRING
Plenty of clothing (as mentioned below), Bible, pen/pencil, notebook, flashlight, toiletries, towels/washcloth, sleeping Bag or sheets/blanket, pillow, spending money, anything else you think you may need.
**Mark each item with the camper’s full name!**
CLOTHING
Casual and play clothing is generally the rule of the day at camp. We do have a few occasions on which it is appropriate for the campers to dress up, so, you may wish to pack something a little bit special. Some days can be rather chilly in the mountains. We suggest that you bring a jacket or sweater, as well as some long pants. Except for emergencies, laundry facilities are not available. Be sure to pack enough clothing to last for the duration of the encampment.
At Streamside, we strive to maintain an atmosphere of modesty for all our campers and staff. We believe our clothing reflects God’s design for us, and appreciate your cooperation in the following areas:
Boys:
- Clothing should be proper size. Excessively large, low hanging pants are NOT appropriate.
- Swimsuits should be proper size and tied around the waist.
Girls:
- Short shorts, see-through blouses, bare midriff, spaghetti strap, low-cut, revealing tops (visible cleavage) or tight-fitting tops or bottoms (skirts, shorts or pants) are NOT appropriate.
- Swimsuits should be one-piece or tankini (must overlap bottom at waist). Two-piece, bare-midriff swimsuits are NOT appropriate.
Everyone:
- Clothing, jewelry and/or accessories must reflect standards of decency and modesty, and must not be inappropriate or distracting to the environment of the camp.
- Clothing displaying inappropriate words or graphics is NOT appropriate.
- Proper footwear such as: athletic-type shoes, sneakers, hiking boots, sandals with heel straps, and flat or low casual dress shoes are appropriate. Campers may wear flip-flops and water shoes to the swimming pool and boating pond.
**Mark each item of clothing with the camper’s full name!**
MEDICATION
If a camper requires doctor-prescribed medication during camp, the parent/guardian should provide the camp nurse (on or before arrival) with the medication in its original container and directions for its use. (See Health History)
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
Electronics (iPod, radio, CD player, computer, video games, etc.), cell phone, knives, comic books, food/snacks, anything valuable or having sentimental value.
Any item considered detrimental to the welfare of the camp will be kept in the camp office and returned on the day of departure. Cigarettes, obscene literature or harmful substances will be destroyed.
SPENDING MONEY
We suggest bringing $20-30 of spending money. The Snack Shop is open daily and campers will have time during the week to browse our Gift Shop. Campers also have an opportunity to participate in a offering for various missions.
Spending money is deposited into the camper’s Bank Card account and may be applied during registration or ahead of time by mail or credit card. Unspent money will be refunded to the camper at the end of camp.
MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
Streamside takes its responsibility for your child’s health and safety very seriously. We will contact you as soon as possible if your child needs to visit a doctor or hospital emergency room. To ensure proper care, it is MOST important that you complete the Health History record for your child, as well as provide phone numbers where we can reach you at any time.
